Hashimoto Kaisuke (橋本皆助)

Kaisuke HASHIMOTO, from the Yamato Koriyama Domain, (1835 - June 3, 1871) was a member of the Shinsengumi. He served as a corporal. Later, he became Goryo-eji (guards of Imperial mausoleums) and a member of Rikuentai (an association of roshi organized by Shintaro NAKAOKA). His original family name was Fujii. His changed names were Hachiro MIZUNO or 藤井勇七郎 (Yushichiro FUJII).

After leaving his clan, he participated in raising an army of Mt. Tsukuba by Mito tengu to, and joined the Shinsengumi in 1866. He became a temporary member of the Shinsengumi. In appreciation of his service in Sanjo-ohashi Bridge Noticeboard Incident, he became a regular member and was promoted to a corporal, however he broke away from the Shinsengumi with Kashitaro ITO and other members in 1867, and formed Goryo-eji.

However, five months later, he also broke away from Gryo-eji and joined Rikuentai.

After Meiji Restoration, he was allowed to return to his clan, the Yamato Koriyama Domain, however he died of illness shortly after returning to his home. He died at the age of 37.

His grave is in Joko-ji Temple in Yamatokoriyama City, Nara Prefecture. It is said that if you pay a visit to his grave, you get over a stomachache for some reasons.
